16. Convincing Him

"Ohh... I'm sorry" Aarchi apologized immediately as he looked away from her with a sad smile.

"I... She was my IT" He said taking the bottle from her hand and drinking.

"Aparna Sachdev... the girl who pulled me out of my dark hole" Vihaan's voice suddenly became gloomy as he talked about his love. Aarchi simply sat by him and listened to everything he had to say.

"Anyway... enough about me" He looked at her.

"I don't judge anyone Vihaan. Especially not when I live in a glass house" She placed her hand on his and smiled.

"You are like your name... Ray of sunshine. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And you wait, your Prince Charming is going to come and sweep you off your feet" He said returning her smile.

"Well then King Malhotra, follow your own advice too then. If I need to open doors to my Prince Charming then you need to stop being difficult about having your Queen Charlotte" She said teasing him.

"Its different yaar" He said shaking his head at her persistent.

"Maybe but yet. Ask your self whether she would have wanted you to live your life again or spend it waiting for her knowing she wasn't going to return. Kisi aur ko dil mein jaga dene se jo pehla tha uski importance kam nahi ho jati" She said drinking some more from the bottle.

"I'm not ready yet to move on from her memories" He whispered.

"Ek baat kahu?" She chuckled sadly.

"You can never move on from someone's memories because they are the moments you spent with someone and they hurt because you know you can't recreate them with the same person. A person never moves on from the memories, they simply accept them and find someone else to share those with" Aarchi laid down on her back and looked at the star filled night as Vihaan turned around to see her.

"But that wasn't the case with Gautam was it?" Vihaan felt the intense need to disagree with her.

"He had never moved on, I was his attempt at moving on. I feel played because I feel he was two-timing. He was being with me physically but mentally he was still with the other person. Moving on doesn't mean that you be with a new person but lock yourself with your ex, it was supposed to be him allowing me into that arena of memories where he showed me the man he was and say that yes he has lived those moments once but he wants more moments of us, not just him and his memories somewhere far from my reach" She said smiling sadly.

"I don't like the sad look on you. Not saying that it looks bad, it has its own charm but the happy look suits you better" He laid down beside her looking at the stars.

"I gave myself a chance. After Surya, I thought it was all over but I moved on from him. Surya... He... Its still hard to talk about it" She held her hands together and pressed them onto her stomach. Vihaan noticed the unease in her voice and slid his hand into hers, holding it firmly.

"You don't have to explain yourself just because I talked about mine. We are different people, with different ideologies and different experiences" Vihaan said turning towards her side.

"I'd like to talk still" She placed her other hand on top of Vihaan's and smiled at the sky.

"When I had gone to confront him for his actions, he'd said that he did it because I was lacking in giving him what he needed. My self-respect took a huge blow, it was as if that not having sex with your boyfriend is a crime and I was the one who forced him to cheat on me" Aarchi said closing her eyes.

"Its a choice where consent matters" He said looking at her closed eyes.

"Gautam was a scumbag but if there was something good he did, it was this. He explained me that the problem wasn't me, it was Surya. He fixed something he didn't break and I'll be grateful for that for as long as I live" Aarchi opened her eyes and shifted closer to Vihaan feeling cold being so away from him.

"He fixed one but broke another part of me and that's what's hurting. I'm angry at him for being so confused about which girl he wanted. I... I'll soon forgive him but until then he's in my hate list" Aarchi huffed and turned to Vihaan's side.

"Hate list and all... Who else is there?" Vihaan asked interested.

"As of now just him" She said smiling mischievously.

"Not even Surya?"

"He didn't make it to the list. I had to care for him enough for him to make it to the list. He stopped mattering a long time back" Aarchi said sincerely.

"Good, no boy should matter to you so much or else Rishav uncle along with your 2 brothers will hunt that poor guy" Vihaan joked making her laugh.

"Its a wonder how your father approves of Arush" Vihaan said rolling his eyes.

"He just act strict but he's a softie at heart" Aarchi said defending her father.

"Yeah? Ask that to the world, I can bet that you won't like the answer" He said placing one hand behind his head and turning to look at the sky.

"I don't care about the world. My dad is the best, bas keh diya toh bas keh diya" Aarchi deepened her voice to imitate Amitabh Bachan from K3G and giggled.

"I know he does some unethical things on the outside but I also know he won't do something that I don't approve of. His methods are twisted not his ideologies" Aarchi said seriously.

"You make me wish for something everytime I talk to you" Vihaan said looking at her. She looked at him confused.

"You make me wish for a daughter who's like you. Devoted and commited to her father so much that it makes the world jealous of it. I'd really like to have a daughter who looks at me the way you look at your father" Vihaan said with a dreamy gaze.

"And how do I look my father?" She asked blinking slowly.

"As if he's Captain America and you are sure that when shit hits rock bottom, he's going to come out of nowhere and pull you out. You look at him with so much trust as if you know that he'd set the world on fire if something happened to you. I want that look when I have a daughter. I want to be their superhero to whom they look whenever stuff isn't right, with the trust that I'm going to fix it in seconds for them. She'll just have to name the thing and I'd bring it to her, I'll spoil her rotten" Vihaan said closing his eyes dreaming about a small fairy in his arms. A wide smile formed on his face liking the scenario playing in his mind.

"Wake up. To have a daughter you'll need a wife first. Biwi hi nahi hogi kaheki beti?" Aarchi sat upright and laughed hitting him on his shoulder.

"No thanks for breaking the poor man's heart" He also sat up, folding his knees to his chest and hugging them.

"I'm serious Vihaan. Give your date a real chance" She said.

"What's the problem? Atleast remove the lock on your heart, let the person open the door. How will you know if she's the one without actually giving her the chance?"

"Problem is that ke duniya badi khali si lagti hai uske bina"ย ." He said looking away from her, not wanting for her to see the darkness in his heart.

World feels empty without her..

"Aisa konsa naseeb hai jisme milna toh likha magar uska ban saka? Kuch pal ka saath aur umar bhar ke liye dard bhi likh diye?" Aarchi smiled sadly understanding his pain.

ย What kind of destiny is it where we were destined to meet but couldn't be hers? A few minutes of togetherness for the lifelong pain.

"Mera version bhi hai:ย

ย Aisa toh konsi qismat jisme mera hoke bhi mera na hua? Aisi kaisi badnaseebi jo woh uska hogaya aur mera nahi? Jis akelepan se nafraat thi woh phir mujhe wahi chod gaya." She smiled sadly standing up and holding her arms close to keep warm.

There's a me version too:

What kind of fate was it where he was mine but not mine? What kind of badluck where he became hers but not mine. The loneliness I used to hate, he's left me there again.

"Mujhe bearish pasand thi woh baarish se nafrat karne ki wajah bata gaya" she said as a tear slid down her cheek.

I liked rain and he's given me all the reasons not to.

"Woh ishq hi kya jo mohobat se nafrat na karvaye" he smiled remembering the pain his heart holds.

What type of love is it if it doesn't make you hate it?

"Exactly Vihaan Malhotra. You've had enough time to hate love, now it is time to love again and for that, we need to first re-establish your belief in god" She forwarded her hand to him.

"Means?" He took her hand and stood up.

"Means that you hate love but you hate God more for taking away your love. You are angry at him for taking that one thing that mattered. You don't hate hate love which on the other hand I hate hate. For you, its your belief in God that was broken but for me it is my belief in love, it is a difference which have different methods of re-building it" She said walking backwards inside.

"To solve your problem, we will need to make sure that God is the last thing on your brain when you are with your date" She said smiling as if she just solved World Hunger.

"And how will we do it?" He asked going along with the flow.

"By conversing. Conversation... that's your drawback. Do you know we would have been such good friends years ago if you talked slightly more than 'hmm, yeah, ok, good morning, good evening, get lost'. Your language isn't generative and neither symbolic. How will a person know who you are when you aren't taking the efforts to express yourself" Aarchi asked angrily, placing her hands on her waist.

"Aab sab woh bichari thodi karegi, thodi effort toh aapko bhi dalni padegi na? Talk with people"

"Then what am I doing here with you?" Vihaan asked rolling his eyes.

"Expand your social circle, you wouldn't have talked to me if my dear bestfriend wasn't away and you never caught me playing with rain. I led the conversation, its high time you do now" Aarchi said waving her hand at him.

"Do your brothers emphasize enough that you are a dictator?" Vihaan asked wondering if his friend were doing their job right.

"They say but who listens" She said rolling her eyes.

"Main point, don't be so quick to reject someone without listening and talking to them. From the looks on your face, I can say that you've mourned and grieved enough on your girlfriend, now give yourself a chance to happiness. For example, what's your favourite season?" Aarchi stepped in and walked to the kitchen.

"Winter I guess" Vihaan said unsure of his choice.

"You like winter but didn't see hope in it?" Aarchi asked smiling making him confused.

"What do you like about winter?" She asked taking a glass from the counter and filling it with water.

"Snow" He said doing the same.

"Snow has two meanings in literature. One it can mean death and on the positive note it can also mean peace. Ever seen the white blanket of snow and wondered how perfect it looks in the sad weather? I know winter's the season of death and sorrow but if you look at slightly different, it can change the whole perspective" She said climbing onto the kitchen counter and sitting on it.

"In winter when all leaves have fallen just like everyone's hopes and aspirations, the snow falls asking you that it isn't the end, its a clean slate for you to try again. Then comes spring where with the hope the snow gave, flowers blossom again, everything you need to grow is given to you. Followed by summer where everyone is happy and cheerful. Lastly we have autumn or Fall where the leaves again start falling and the hope starts to wither but if you look at it as maybe the leaves falling are a sign of throwing away things that pull you down. In winter you mourn the things you loved were the ones pulling you down but there's snow again which means again a new slate and the cycle continues" She explained to him enthusiastically not knowing that her words were warming the heart that had thawed years ago.

"How are you so hopeful?" Vihaan asked placing his glass down.

"If there's no hope this world will stop functioning. Its a simple rule of nature, make mistakes and learn from them but if you won't make them at all how will you know whether you are right or wrong? I'm going to find you a girl who's going to change your perspective towards life, she'll be your hope for whome you everyday go an extra mile" She said dreamily.

"I think you might have just convinced me to make peace with my past" He said smiling rubbing his nape shyly.

"Glad I could help" She jumped down happily before Vihaan could help.
